But, does is ever happen that as he drools you, licks you and fills your face with fondness mixed with saliva, the bad breath from his mouth makes you pull away? Hold on! might be it is something more than malodor. Might be, your puppy is suffering from some really serious ailment. Bad breath in dogs is not that uncommon an occurrence. As a matter of fact, bad breath in puppies is amongst the commonest of dog health problems. Dogs with bad breath are very likely to suffer from serious health problems. The veterinarian doctors have been more serious than the human doctors in this regard. Long ago have they realized the close connection between oral health problem and the overall heath of the animals. Hence they have long been successful in establishing the underlying reasons or the significance of dogs with bad breath. There can be many possible reasons for the bad breath in puppies. The dog health problems that are usually related to bad breaths in dogs are - · Problems of tooth such as broken or decaying tooth. · Gum disease. · Any kind of foreign body that gets stuck in the space between teeth. · Gastrointestinal ailments. This includes obstructive diseases and cancer. · Infections related to sinus. · Kidney problems. · Tumor in the mouth, etc. Hence, it becomes so important to consult your vet as soon as you get to realize that your puppy is having bad breath problem. But, before taking your dog to the vet, you can carry on a little task. Ask yourself a few basic questions: Do you feel there is pain in your dog surrounding the mouth region? Is there a sign of drooling in your dog? Is the dog pawing at its mouth too much? Is it that the dog runs towards its bowl with the same eagerness as before but cannot eat? Is it showing signs of reluctance in the matter of eating? Once the dog gets the food into its mouth, does it drop it? If you come up with an 'yes' for any of these, your dog might be having problems with its teeth or something even more serious. Just as is the case with we the humans, bad breath in dogs may be an indicator of serious dog health problems. But, we often show utter reluctance in such problems with the dogs. Actually, the social handicap that bad breath problem can become for us is perhaps not the same in case of the dogs. Isn't it? And that often becomes the prime reason for such reluctance on our part. But, it is more like a crime to commit. And we become aware of its seriousness only when the condition aggravates. Following such late realization comes a series if vet bills that are not to pleasant too bear. That is why, it's much better to remember that age old adage - 'prevention is better than cure'.
